Car park, Machen Village Hall, The Crescent, Machen, Caerphilly.
On Commercial Road (A468) Machen, turn down onto Ffwrwm Road. At the crossroads turn left onto The Crescent. The car park is approx. 175 yds along this road on the LHS. CF83 8ND

Machen and Waterloo
The first part of the walk follows The Machen Forge Trail. It starts by following the Rhymney River to a viaduct and then up onto an old railway line to reach Waterloo. The walk then ascends, via Mynydd y Bwlch, to join the Cambrian Way, passing through Coed Cefn Pwll Du then back down to the start.

Silent Valley
We follow the nature trail up the mountain. Great views over the Cwm Valley. There is a bit of a steep climb on one section.

Lancaut peninsular Chepstow
Lovely walk following the path above limestone cliffs with great views of the river Wye especially from Wintour’s Leap, to the lost medieval village of Lancaut and the ruins of St James 12th Century Church.

9am: Bus leaves Brynmawr Square. So can anyone boarding here please arrive by 8.55am.

9.10am. The Institute Blaina

9.25am. Old Rugby Club car park.

9.40am. Llanhilleth by the Station/ Bridge

9.55am. Bus stop by Sofa Sofa(Crumin)

These times are subject to traffic and 20mph limits.

11.15am Arrive Bath( bus company’s estimation)


Ger and Chris have organised the following walk for anyone wishing to join them:

Bath Skyline Walk. - 6 miles- Full trail circuit. Stunning views of the city.
6 miles of greenery that encircles the city and includes woodland, valleys, meadows and trails. Very varied including roads, surfaced paths, steep hills, a rocky uneven section, steps and a stile. Sturdy footwear advised. (we may not do whole thing, depends where we start from)

You should take a packed lunch as there may not be time to visit somewhere to eat.

Ancient Wentwood and mysterious Gray Hill
A stiff climb to start followed by a succession of woodland tracks leading to secluded Cwm Valley. Route goes along forest paths, tracks and sunken lanes with a short stretch of quiet road.

Layby by Brynmawr Comprehensive School

Brynmawr to the Lonely Shepherd return
Crossing the Jack Williams Archway Bridge to the north side of Clydach Gorge, we follow the bike path to Darren Fellen and to the ancient Beech Wood of Cwm Clydach. Crossing the rusty bridge, and skirting old bluebell wood, we climb up to the Hafod road via Black Rock. After following the road for several hundred yards, we head up to the bottom Dram Road to the magnificent lunch spot of the Lonely Shepherd. We retrace our steps and return to the Hafod Road before turning to the common again for more stone chats and skylarks. Highlights: Industrial heritage, possible ring ouzels but countless wheatears and stone-chats, hireath and the best picnic spot on the planet.

Piercefield House / Chepstow Racecourse
This walk passes across Piercefield Estate, retracing paths laid out by Valentine Morris in the eighteenth century. The old estate includes Piercefield House, illustrating the decay of one of Wales’ finest houses and incorporates Chepstow Race Course. The route goes around the course with a small detour to the Giant’s Cave and on to the village of St. Arvans. The walk then follows a series of footpaths through farmland and finally a section of Cockshoot Wood before proceeding a short distance along the B4235 back to the start.

Domen Fawr
Starting at Llanhilleth, we walk to the Domen Fawr in reverse to the usual walk. There's a steep climb at start to Pen y Fan Pond. From here we head to the Domen Fawr and down to Ebbw Vale returning by train. Option to call in Brewers Fare for food or drink at end.

Monmouth - Symonds Yat Linear walk
There is a free carpark on Rockfield road if interested. Don’t forget your bus passes! A pleasant walk following the river through woodland and fields back to Monmouth. May be wet under foot.

Cwm – Aberbeeg Circular
Leaving the car park, we visit the Miners Memorial. Ascend via the zigzag path passing near Llan Dafel Farm then descend through forest to Aberbeeg. We return to Cwm via Graig Fawr Forest path.

(The pub is not open on Tuesdays now but they are happy for us to use the car park.)

Newport - Caerleon
We will walk along good pathways and there will be an opportunity to visit the Roman Legion Museum. Entry is free and there are toilet facilities to use as the public toilets have been closed. Obviously this is optional.

Old Mill Car Park, Trosnant Street, Pontypool,Torfaen – Entrance is directly opposite Pontypool Leisure Centre Car Park. Nearest Postcode: NP4 8AT

Garn Wen and The Folly
The walk climbs through Pontypool Park to Penygarn, St Cadocs and through the church yard. It then continues up to and through Pontypool Golf course. It then skirts Mynydd Garn Wen to turn back through Coedcae Ambrose down into a little valley and then back up onto Little Mountain to follow the ridge across to The Folly and Grotto. There is then a steep descent back to the car park.
